Matthew Wade, a wicketkeeper batsman for Tasmania, has been suspended after a spate of code of conduct violations. Wade’s most recent infraction happened during the Marsh Cup game against Victoria. He will now be subject to an automatic two-game suspension for the offense.
Matthew Wade anger peaked during the game on Monday at the Junction Oval in Melbourne when he violently slammed his bat down the ground after facing a dot ball. This unique act includes abuse of cricket gear or attire, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match, which is a clear breach of Article 2.5 of the Cricket Australia code. Wade did not argue against the charge, and he was convicted.
Matthew Wade has committed three level-one breaches in the previous 18 months. Despite the fact that these offenses are very minor, Cricket Australia’s rules provide that if there are three violations within a certain period of time, a two-game penalty is automatically imposed.
