They’re a deep breathing antidote to city life, a natural cathedral of sandstone cliffs, waterfalls and gum-scented air.
Only an hour and a half west of Sydney via the Great Western Highway, the region is part of the UNESCO-listed Greater Blue Mountains. It’s a vast World Heritage sanctuary, extending right out to Wollemi National Park. It’s a patchwork of steep gorges, rainforests and eucalypt forests, sheltering a huge diversity of Australian wildlife, including lyrebirds, wallabies and the occasional shy dingo.
